Update: Non-BVIslander Recommended For CEO Of BVI Health Services Authority

Chairman of the Board of the BVI Health Services Authority (BVIHSA), Bishop John Cline has disclosed that a non-BVIslander has been recommended to fill the post of Chief Executive Officer of the BVIHSA.

Bishop Cline made the disclosure today during a press conference at the training room of the Peebles Hospital.

He said that they are dealing with the appointment and did not comment further.

The appointment of the CEO has to be made via the Minister for Health, with the approval of Cabinet.

Dr. Ronald Georges who had been acting as the CEO for some time, left at the end of his contract.

Minister for Health and Social Development, Hon. Ronnie Skelton told BVI Platinum News on June 7 that Dr. Georges' contract was extended by Cabinet until May 31, 2012 upon his [Hon. Skelton] advice.

At the time, he stated that so far, names have been shortlisted for the post and a decision will be made soon for a new CEO of the BVIHSA.

Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Health and Social Development, Ms. Petrona Davies had also stated that Dr. Georges was on secondment from the Ministry of Health to the BVIHSA. She said for a number of years, Dr. Georges has been between the Ministry and the Health Services Authority.

Sounds like the best option is to find the best person for the job and employ them. Why would you do anything else for important positions that affect the health of a Nation.

That would be a really great start. There is more going on there than neither the ministry, the BVIHSA and Dr. Georges have spoken on. Let us know why He has walked away from the BVIHSA three times. Wondering minds would like to know!

So what if a non-bvislander is recommended? As long as this person is qualified and that no equally qualified local who may have applied were underminded, I have no issue. We need to look at value, service, ability over nationality. If we can do it, fine! IF we can't do it, let's get secondments... more

I personally don't care whether it is BVIslander or not. But I do care about a very good health system. So whoever it is better deliver that or else all hell will break loose

I some countries legislation was passed to prevent political and other selfish people from having persons acting in a position for long and extended periods. We need that type of legislation here in the Virgin Islands. Acting for more than 180 days is abuse of the system.

I'm sure that's what it means. They said he was on secondment at HSA and that contract is up, not being renewed. Seems like a case similar to Drexel, nothing to see here.
