Desperately needing a victory to keep hopes alive following crushing loses to St. Kitts and Nevis and Dominica, the British Virgin Islands powered to victory against Montserrat in straight sets last Friday, June 8 to secure the bronze medal and advance to the Norceca 2nd round of the Men's World Championships Volleyball Tournament.
The Multipurpose Sports Complex was the stage for the first round of matches in Group F. On Thursday morning, the BVI opened their campaign with victory against Montserrat in straight sets 25-14, 25-4 and 25-10. However, on Thursday evening the BVI fell to St Kitts in straight sets 25-11, 25-18 and 25-11.
On Friday morning, the BVI faced Dominica and again fell in straight sets 25-16, 25-12 and 25-20. However, facing Montserrat for the second time with the bronze medal on the line, the BVI again picked up a straight sets victory, 25-12, 25-10 and 25-21.
Montserrat ended the tournament without a win and failed to win a set in any of its four matches.
St. Kitts defeated Monsterrat in straight sets 25-18, 25-10 and 25-15; and Dominica also defeated Montserrat in straight sets 25-7, 25-4 and 25-14.
Dominica dominated the tournament and defeated St. Kitts in a 5 set thriller, 25-22, 19-25, 20-25, 25-23 and 15-13 to earn the gold medal and advance to the Norceca 2nd round of the World Championships Tournament.
Dominica defeated St. Kitts in the very first game of the tournament. St. Kitts settled for silver and they too advanced to the Norceca 2nd round of the World Championships Tournament.
