The Territory's top male performer at the Primary Five Examinations is Brandon Kartick, an 11 year-old St. Georges student who is following in the footsteps of his older sibling, Andre, who placed third in the Territory at the same examination in 2009.

Although they sat the exams at different times, both brothers also placed first in English Language.

"My brother, Andre encouraged me by doing well in his exams, spelling bee and VI culture quiz. He quizzed me often in preparation for my exams. I want to follow in his footsteps," Brandon related to BVI Platinum News.

Brandon is your average child outside of the classroom and enjoys reading, fishing and cricket. He first attended First Impression Pre-school, then onto St. George's School Primary Division. His favourite subject at school was language usage.

Brandon said he did not think that he would have finished in the top 3 in the Territory, but he was very overwhelmed when he heard the news.

"I would like to thank God, my teachers, fellow students, my brother and parents for their support. One challenge i faced was watching television. I had to sacrifice some of my favourite shows in order to study," Brandon stated.

He plans to become a Veterinarian in the future because he loves animals and believe that it is important to have Veterinarians in the BVI so that people can keep their pets healthy and they would not have to take them overseas for treatment.

Brandon encourages students who will sit the Primary Five exam next year to start studying from now.

His best supporters are his parents, Adrian and Feroza Kartick who guided him through the preparation for the exam.

"We are very proud of Brandon's achievements. He worked very hard preparing for his exams and we are thrilled with the results. Keep up the good work, Brandon," his mom, Feroza stated.

His dad, Adrian said that they ensured that Brandon reviewed his school work consistently since the beginning of the school year.

"We also encouraged him to read a lot. Since January of this year we gave him supplemental work at home. We, along with our other son, Andre, would quiz him on each subject. The late nights and long weekends paid off," said Adrian.

Brandon's parents thanked God for his blessings and the St. George's School Primary Division for their support over the past years. They also thanked Class 5 teachers Ms. Stevens and Mrs. Cooper and wished the St. George's School continued success.

Brandon will join his brother at the St. George's School Secondary Division from September.
