Managing Director of NAGICO Insurances Shan Mohamed handed over a $5,000 cheque to Executive Director of the BVI Kids and the Sea (KATS) Programme Chris Ghiorse on Friday 6 July at Nanny Cay.

In the process, the company became a platinum sponsor of the 14th Annual Premier´s Cup International Youth Regatta, scheduled to take place at the Nanny Cay Marina from Friday 13 to Sunday 15 July. NAGICO´s contribution will go toward Team BVI for the weekend tournament and to assist with the KATS Programme locally.

Mr. Mohamed said the management and staff of NAGICO in the BVI are pleased to have been able to contribute to Team BVI and he took the opportunity to wish them success in the tournament.

"I am confident that NAGICO´s partnership with KATS will continue, as we have been supporting this programme for some time, particularly given the many young people in the territory who are involved," he added.

In response, Mr. Ghiorse thanked NAGICO Insurances for its continued commitment and financial support. "The many boys and girls who are in the KATS programme are also thankful for the support of the business community, as they are ones who learn more every time companies such as NAGICO invest in them," he said.

The annual regatta is being organized by KATS BVI, with support from the local Rotary, Rotaract and Interact Clubs. The event is the only youth team sailing regatta in the Caribbean and brings together young people between the ages of 10 and 18 for a weekend of fellowship and competition.

The teams will arrive on Friday 13 July and will be welcomed that evening by Premier Hon. Dr. D. Orlando Smith at a reception at Peg Leg Restaurant, Nanny Cay. Racing will take place all day Saturday 14 July from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. and on Sunday 15 July from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. in Drakes Passage, located off Nanny Cay. Multiple races will take place everyday, ending with an awards ceremony at 2:30 p.m. on Sunday 15 July.

The event is open to the public and there will be a VIP boat on both days to take spectators out on the course to see the sailing up close. There will also be shore side events starting at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday 14 July, including a Frozen T-Shirt competition, Tug-of-War and much more.
