The Police are urging marinas and owners of dinghies and small boats to take the necessary precautions in securing these vessels while they are not in use.
In a press release, the Royal Virgin Islands Police Force stated that it recorded a rise in reported thefts of dinghies and dinghy engines, especially during the night in or around marinas within the last two weeks.
To this end, the Police is encouraging marinas to fast-track the restoration of closed-circuit cameras and to monitor all activities in or around their establishments to discourage or, at least, minimise opportunistic theft.
Dinghy owners and charter boat captains are also encouraged to secure these vessels with chains and cable locks where possible.
Persons with information that can help Police in identifying the perpetrators of these thefts are asked to contact the Royal Virgin Islands Police Force at 311.
